For whatever reason, people go through listening phases. You know you'll spend one whole week listening to the dirtiest gangsta rap, before going on a month long classic country kick, only to follow that with a few days of sad-sad singer songwriter mess. Well for whatever reason I've been in this grungy-pop-drone-ish rock phase. I recently gave two much discussed early eighties and nineties bands a listen, and now I can't stop listening to several of their albums. Galaxie 500 and Luna are two of the many bands that Pandora has recently turned me onto, and although I've been reading about how they influenced this band or that for most of my life I had never really paid attention...my lose I guess. Cool facts, the guitar player for Galaxie 500 founded Luna following the break up of the former, and the drum kit played on the early Galaxie 500 albums (including the song below) was Conan O'Brien's, a classmate from Harvard. The other band is an old Louisville band called The Pennies that Velocity talked about a few months ago, but I didn't really care to hear until ear-xtacy had their debut on the front counter for $1.99. Anyway...always good to hear some new nineties rock. Almost done with my Top 50 albums of the 00's, expect it by weeks end.

The Pennies...as always no stream for Louisville bands...wish I could.
